Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. But too often we are in a hurry and skip out on it. Often, we don’t realize that breakfast can be quick and easy with a little planning and preparation. So, for this post I have pulled together 3 of my favourite simple, delicious and nutritious ideas for a quick and easy breakfast.
How often do you tell yourself that you don’t have time for breakfast? Getting out the door in the morning, especially with a family, can be a challenge for sure. But skipping breakfast or turning to pre-packaged cereals can be a mistake. Especially since most of these cereals are full of sugar and additives with very little nutritional value. Maybe you end up grabbing a muffin on-the-go which ends up being more like a cupcake without icing. Consequently, these common high-sugar fast options are poor choices that set you up for a roller coaster day.
Skipping breakfast or turning to high-sugar options can lead to a blood sugar crash, moodiness, an energy crash, getting over hungry, intense food cravings, and overeating. Plus all of these things can upset your hormonal balance and add to other health issues or concerns.
With a little planning, you can have healthy, nutritious and fast options for breakfast every morning. Here are some great options that take less time than popping into a coffee shop or sitting in a drive-thru. Plus they will save you some money too!
Smoothie Freezer Packs – a quick nutritious breakfast!
Smoothies are one of the healthiest, fastest options for breakfast – you can pack so many nutritious fruits and veggies into them! To keep it super simple and quick, take some time to prepare smoothie packs to keep in your freezer. It will take you about 2 minutes to make your smoothie in the morning.
Simply take your favourite smoothie recipe, gather the solid ingredients and line up enough freezer bags for the week. Then label each bag with the amount of liquid to add then pop in the measured solid ingredients, seal and freeze. You can choose to make individual serving sizes, double or family size – depending on your needs and blender capacity.
Overnight Oats – easy and satisfying!
I love that overnight oats can be made in one large batch and divided into individual servings in mason jars or plastic containers in the fridge to grab and go all week long. Be sure to choose recipes with no added sugar – choose fresh whole fruits and pure honey or pure maple syrup to add sweetness.
Breakfast Cookies – super quick and easy!
Yes! You can have cookies for breakfast! You can make a healthy batch of breakfast cookies and have them ready to grab for healthy breakfast or snack all week long. A good breakfast cookie will be packed with oats, seeds and dried fruit for a healthy serving of complex carbs, protein, fat, and a little sweetness.
These all make great snacks to pop into your kids’ lunch box, or your own! Ready to start with some tasty simple recipes? Grab my free collection of 12 Quick and Easy Recipes by clicking the image below.
