Support your immune system and feel better with this tea
Whenever I feel a cold coming on, this is the tea I make to support my immune system and reduce inflammation. Not to mention how lovely and soothing it is on my throat. As I am waiting for it to cool I love to sit with it warming my hands and inhaling the steam to help clear my sinuses.
To get the full benefits of this tea, you will want to make it from scratch, using the fresh ingredients in the recipe. Not only will it be more flavourful, but you will get the amazing health benefits of fresh ginger and fresh turmeric. Don’t waste your money on tea in bags, especially since this tea is so quick and easy to make.
Ingredients with serious health benefits
Ginger has been used in traditional and alternative medicines for a very long time. It is known for supporting digestion, reducing nausea and helping to fight flus and colds.
Turmeric has numerous health benefits that come from its main active ingredient, curcumin. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a strong antioxidant.
Do NOT skip adding the pinch of black pepper to this tea! You will need it to get the benefits of the curcumin. This is due to the fact that the curcumin in turmeric is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. But piperine, a bioactive compound in black pepper, makes it easier for curcumin to pass through the intestinal wall and into your bloodstream.
Lemons are high in vitamin C and various beneficial plant compounds. These nutrients add several health benefits, including heart health, weight management and digestion. Lemon will brighten up the flavour of this tea. I definitely recommend fresh-squeezing your lemon juice and adding a lemon slice or two to your cup of tea.
For a touch of sweetness, add a little honey. Honey may help to suppress your cough plus it has antioxidants. The darker varieties like amber honey have more antioxidants than the lighter varieties. Choose pure, raw honey to make sure you are getting all the nutritional benefits. Avoid the processed stuff.
Extra support for your immune system
During the dreaded cold/flu season I also ensure that I am taking my top-quality multivitamins, plus extra Vitamin D. For even more immune support, I make sure to take Proglucamune: a powerful supplement that helps your immune cells work effectively.
